| Why Would Anyone Want To Be A Conservative? Maybe it's just me, but I don't understand why anyone would want to be a conservative. Look, I know religion plays a big part in why some people are conservatives, but it's just logical in this day and age to have liberal kind of thinking - to want to move forward as the world changes and maybe realize that what made sense in 1955, doesn't make sense now.
Watching Fox News is almost like having your own time machine, because whenever someone speaks on that channel - you get to view the mindset of people from 100 years ago. It's just amazing to me and I have to wonder if the people who work for Fox News actually believe the moronic things they constantly say or are they just playing a role so to speak for the cash.
I just view the word conservative in of itself as being a negative thing and I just don't understand why anyone would want to limit themselves by thinking so small and so closed minded, when what we need to do is think big and make changes that may be controversial or against what God supposedly wants, but that need to be made so that we can adapt to the ever changing world. |

| Re: Why Would Anyone Want To Be A Conservative? Well...for the most part I don't think people choose to be conservative or not. I think it's just something that happens depending on the environment that they are raised in and live in. |

| Re: Why Would Anyone Want To Be A Conservative? Hey Man, 5 posts into a Classic Rock Forum and you're starting this nonsense.
Hopefully the mods and administers take note of that.
All I know, when it comes to this subject, I'm the opposite of you.
And damn proud of it too.

Same here Groovy. The only thing "left" about me is that I am left handed. |

| Re: Why Would Anyone Want To Be A Conservative? I'm very much a middle man personally. Moving forward is all well and good, but you need a balance, you can't just charge forward into unmarked territory without sitting down and working out the consequences first.
I've never 100% agreed with any political party in any country, ever. |

Actually, I don't like to be labeled as anything.
And yeah, Ted's cool....I agree what some of the stuff he says, but don't agree with everything he says.
I'm a free thinker.
I'm not a Republican or a Democrat.
But, to be honest, I lean to the right.

My apologies for labeling you then. I don't really identify as anything either.
Well Ted is cool but he's also kind of insane...and that kind of makes him cooler....or at least funnier.
While I don't identify as liberal or conservative though I'd bet a pretty penny that I'm really very liberal.
My stance is that while we all might not see eye to eye I think we should all just love each other regardless or at the very least have common courtesy towards each other. |

No, it's ok...I guess most people would say I'm conservative.
I'm certainly not a liberal.
Still, don't like to be labeled as anything, but it's cool, Cosmic Harmony.

I'll agree with that.
I think both, Liberals and Conservative should learn tolerance is a two way street. And this country will be a better place. I really don't like talking politics are religion, to be honest.
I just came into this thread, because...
see my original post. |

I think everything in life is a two way street. I stand behind that notion emphatically.

Yeah me either. I don't care about nor know enough about politics to discuss them and I'm kind of bitter towards religion and won't discuss that because I don't want to offend anyone.

Well that's better reason than for me. I first entered this thread because I clicked on it on accident. |

| Re: Why Would Anyone Want To Be A Conservative? I can only say one thing for sure. I grew up in the 50's and 60's and it was awesome for me as a child. My Dad was only out of work for 6 months during his 40 year career and that was due to an on the job injury. I had a very loving Mom who was at home with me all the time. That doesn't mean there weren't problems then that needed to be addressed. But I have to say I never felt so carefree as I was growing up then. As an adult living in the 21st century, there isn't a day that goes by that I don't feel stressed about what is happening to our country. And I especially feel for the children today. It is so hard growing up now.
I don't consider myself a conservative or liberal. I don't need Fox News preaching to me or anyone. I don't think this world is cut and dry in any way so I can't see taking sides. The one thing I do know is that GREED is killing this country and the world. My parents were worried about some of the same things back in the 50's and 60's as we are dealing with today. Some things have never changed but have grown considerably in size and have taken on a much more dangerous aspect. |

It is amazing that you say this.. I have said close to the same thing, obviously from comparing then and now, yet no one has tried to fix these problems that you who grew up then, and I, growing up now are able to see....
Sorry can't contribute much to the liberal/conservative conversation.. I don't know much about politics, and I don't really want to know that much, just makes me angry, but I don't think I really believe in political parties.. well.. to the extent of their influence at least(or taking sides simply to have a label or to identify with it) |

One thing I can say now that I could say 40 years ago.... we still don't have a damn championship sports team in Cleveland! Watching the Cavs last night was painful. |
