Obama seems intelligent and is a very good speaker. He has a nice family. I'm happy he is trying to reform the credit card laws because the banks have really made a killing off the consumer on these fees they charge and how they jack up interest rates whenever they want. Even if you have a fixed rate, they manage to put that clause in their terms that allows them to do what they want. There use to be usury laws that protected the consumer from this kind of thievery. Then the state of Delaware somehow got the laws banished and all these banks set up house in Delaware so they could start ripping people off. Then in 1980, the Depository Institutions Deregulation and Monetary Control Act was enacted supposedly because of inflation but what it really did was exempt federally chartered savings banks, installment plan sellers and chartered loan companies from state usury limits. This effectively overrode all state and local usury laws. Next thing you know everybody was getting in on it.

Regarding the economy, healthcare, education etc... all I can do is wish him well because that is a big mess. I'm neither a Republican or Democrat. I just think greed has taken over this country and it will take a miracle to turn it around.

Regarding our present involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan... I was always against invading Iraq. I was more interested in focusing our time going after Bin Laden in Afghanistan. Now, Iraq is a beehive stirred up and Afghanistan is their new beehive.

If you look back over time, there has always been conflict with politics and not everyone is satified at the same time. The major difference now is greed.
It's out of control and I'm afraid it may not get better w/o some divine intervention or a miracle.

His health care plan seems to be having trouble getting support. The cash for clunkers plan seems to be a hit though. If there is anything Americans love it's the idea of getting something for nothing. It makes one wonder though about how the health care plan would be run. The cash for clunkers plan is running out of funds. Will the health care plan follow suit. I can just see it. "I am sorry sir but your open heart surgery will have to be postponed because of lack of funding."

America has many "healthy" models of univeral healthcare to look at. Not just Canada's but the UK and France have a great healthcare system. You would be hardpressed to find anyone from these nations that would change their heathcare system to an America styled one.

In a NY Times poll two weeks ago, only 47% approved of how Obama was handling health care, while 45% disapproved. 50% approve of Obama's handling of the economy (compared to 61% in April), and only 44% (the lowest ever) approve of how he's dealing with the war in Afghanistan. His theory of just sitting down and "talking" to change Iran was naive as he must now realize. I think he made too many promises during the campaign without realizing that a president is only a "frontman". He has two houses of Congress and their constituencies to deal with.

I believe that "they" all make too many campaign promises and most candidates don't have a clue to what it would "really" take to make the "promises" reality.

Once the "pot holes" get fixed on the highway....I will know Obama is doing some good to kick start the economy! lol

Things are still a mess, and fixing it will take alot longer than 11 months. So I reserve the right to hold my opinions to a later date.

Not to mention budgetary constraints. They all promise far more than they can deliver as they try to buy the votes of the electorate. The Achilles' heel of democracy has always been the tendency of voters to attempt to vote themselves benefits from the public purse.
