I'm think highly enough of the people here that I believe everyone will be open minded or at least mature enough to not post in this thread just to make an intolerant point.
Intolerant my ass! I strongly resent your insinuation that my point was somehow intolerant of gays.
You know very well that I resist legislative initiatives by all special interest groups - including every one of the others that you've mentioned. I've made my opposition to any and all laws restricting an individual's right to choose very clear many times. And I know that the organization behind Gay Pride Month actively supports legislation restricting the individual's freedom of contract/association. Do you deny this?

Nonsense. We all discriminate every day and in every way, everytime we make a choice.

Which is why government's must not discriminate on the basis of those factors. To forbid the individual to discriminate on the basis of any factor though is violating his right to freely contract/associate.

Sorry. Hiding behind a veil of sanctimoniousness is just another way of palming a card and I'm not going to let you get away with it. Your device of branding anyone who might have the temerity of disagreeing with you as "immature", "closed-minded" or "intolerant" is just an underhanded way to deter rational argument.
What really did you expect when you raised this subject? Just a chorus of "How nice" or "Why that's lovely dear"? If so, here's a lesson in reality. You're going to get the occasional observer branding it all as "Tripe and nonsense". And guess what? That observer is also fully within his rights. So stop bleating about immaturity and learn to live with reality. BTW, have you ever noticed that teenage girls are the subsector of society most given to talking about "maturity"?

Well that's awfully defensive of you. Sorry that you think that that comment was directed at you but the only way I even remotely was insinuating anything about you Hep was in the very broad group of "everyone".

I am playing no such card and I am in no way trying to start any sort of argument, rational or otherwise. Also I never said "immature" or "close-minded" so I don't know where you are quoting those from and while I did use "intolerant" it's sole use was not directed at anyone so quoting it like that was out of context.
Semantics aside though, it seems like you're fighting with something that's not there. I am all too aware that there are some people who jump at the chance to use the word "bigot" (and words of the like) in reference to those who show any opposition to the gay community. Unfortunately for your argument though I am not one of said people. The only reason I made that comment was not a sneaky way of taking shots at anyone but simply to say "Ok, I understand that there are people out there who don't support what this thread is about. I have enough faith in the people here to trust them to not go about slinging mud in a thread that in no way asked for it."
And one last note: If you at all feel like you want to bring up how I casually avoided certain sections of your argument that is because I have no intentions of starting or (if we're already without me being fully aware of it) continuing an argument. This is a happy thread and I intend to keep it that way.
Hmmmmmm, well the way I look at this is the same way I look at someone being gay in general. It in no way effects me and if it doesn't affect me or the ones I love negatively in any way then it's not a big deal. I've had like two friends in my life who were gay (not including acquaintances and ones who came out later) and I didn't give a shit that they were. I don't go out of my way to be festive about it personally but I rarely acknowledge any specialty days either.
The first gay guy I met was after college (plenty at college just never in my personal group) and it was someone at work. He suggested hanging out so I grabbed my other friend and we went out saw Underworld and then went to a bar. At one point I was talking to the gay guy and he was like "I've got to tell you something" He seemed a little nervous and reserved about what he was going to say (a lot to do with his family)! I was like "What's up?" He said "I'm gay!" Even though that was the first time someone ever came out to me I didn't hesitate and just said "Dude! I don't give a ****!" I said I'd still hang out with him like any other friend. Things were normal as anything.
The second gay guy I met also at work I had a little gaydar sensings with but didn't even care to ask. He was a HUUUUGGGEEE music fan and it gave me someone to talk music with which was great. That's all I cared about! He eventually told me very casually and I don't even remember what I said. It was that unimportant. The guy moved but a couple months ago I still tried recruiting him for here because I thought he'd be perfect for it.
Anyway with Cosmic after like a second of shock I was like this person has great taste in music. I've also noticed she is mature, kind and intelligent. Couldn't care less about the rest. I've never had stress from anyone who's LGT or B except for one incident where some dude my female cousin knew made advances three times to the point I had to be pretty forward about cutting the shit. It wasn't because he was gay. It was because he was a moron who happened to be gay.
So to sum things up for me would take three words: I don't care! Keep doing what feels right Cosmic as I have no problem with it whatsoever!
I'm pretty much the same soot.. my manager at work is gay.. he doesn't really bring it up.. I mean.. it's obvious and we all know, but no one cares... he's not going to come onto me or any other dude, so it's fine.. I don't understand the hate or anything... but whatever.. It's just one of those things that doesn't matter at all to me

My favorite is the big dumb rednecks who say "Well if that guy hits on me I'm gunna kick his ass!" All I can think about these people is "Why the hell do you think they will even find you attractive you toothless redneck dick!" If you are too fugly for a chick why would a dude be any different and want your fugly ass!" Even if I was somehow prejudice against gays in my lifetime seeing how much dumber everyone else is would change my mind quickly!

@TheWorld At Large- Yay for Pride Month! Have you hugged your Lesbian\Gay\Bisexual\Transgender\Intersexed\Queer\ Straight Friend today?
@Hepcat- while I think Cosmic answered your questions perfectly, I feel compelled to add one thing-
Walk a few miles in our shoes before you talk about "freedom of association". In your experience, how often do you have to worry about being kidnapped, raped, and\or killed- possibly by your own family? THAT'S the kind of discrimination the LGBT community deals with.
Please think on that, and how that ties in to our struggles to be recognized as human beings.
@TheWorld At Large(again)- You know what? Just hug someone and be happy! Nicer people make for a nicer world. Yay!

I'm quite happy to live in a world with Homosexuality, and have no issues with it whatsover. I'm straight, but I have no problem with others lifestyle choice... if that's what they want to do, more power to them.
In fact, and I've stated this before somewhere (don't ask where), I've spent my entire life campaigning against discrimination of race, gender, sexuality, religion and any other irrelvent factor. As someone else said earlier (my apologies to whoever said it, I can't remember and can't be bothered re-reading the thread), walk a mile in someone's shoes before criticizing them.
The LGBT society has brought some really cool things into society. Here's some of the coolest members of the LGBT society (excluding Cosmic of course!)
Note: I may have forgotten some here, but I don't really think about musician's sexuality... music comes first. These are just the ones I remembered
My X stopped listening to Judas Priest when Rob came out Metal ?????
WTH that's completely ignorant !
I live in a large gay community in Massachuetts , In fact we were even on 60 Minutes a few years ago ...
I'm straight , until I moved here 25 years ago I thought gay people where fruity people lol.
Now after living and working here ALL this time I've learned tolerance and have many friends/co-workers who have Alt-Lifestyles. I hardly think about it anymore..I say As I stated before:
Love Is Love: I rather have people digging on each ,rather than killing each ANY day..I judge people for character not for lifestyle choices,
If someone doesn't understand you and hurts for it , what kind of justice is this ?
