Thanks a heap, Tray, but I have to admit that, that pic is
somewhat of an illusion. What I mean is that the pond is nowhere near as mystical as it looks in the pic. It's surrounded by cornfields (it's in Hallsville, Il) and immediately behind me (I was standing on an arm of ground that jutted out from the S/E corner of the pond) was the drainage/overflow for the pond. The fog simply added an amazing backdrop and "atmosphere" (as you aptly put it).
That pic was taken with a disposable Fuji camera that I got for buying 2 packs of Marlboros. It sat in my backpack for over a year - thru both heat of Summer and cold of Winter - until I'd taken all of the pictures. I've always considered the pics to be a lucky fluke because I never expected them to actually turn out.
When I saw that picture of Sam, I knew I had me a keeper. Just moments after I snapped that pic, 4 ducks that had been waiting for Sam to vacate the tip of the point swam past. I wish they had swum past while Sam was still sitting there, but I respect their decision not to.
That pic is an awesome memory of a dog that could live up to the hype. I've always called it "Gold At Waters Edge."
