| Re: The BEER thread ! Register to remove these ads. It's free! LOL I grew up in MILWAUKEE and when they used to make all kinds of beer there! However, my parents were/are teetotalers ...
Before I headed south I spent two semesters in the city where they made Old Style ... I still have no idea what the heck "krausening" is! I wasn't too crazy about Old Style though
I used to drink beer but have since switched to red wine. I quit beer by choice but during my trip to Wisconsin last summer I discovered I seriously CAN NOT and SHOULD NOT drink beer any more! Fortunately it was what one might called a "delayed reaction" ... no you don't wanna know!
Anyway, for a few years I lived (basically) down the street from the Dunedin Brewery. I have since found out that some of their beers are actually made at a brewery in South Carolina. Oddly I didn't ever have any Dunedin Brewery beer in Dunedin. There was a semi-regular music gig (a duo) I used to attend in St. Pete and I would have a bottle or two of this ... I liked it pretty well ... for beer!
North, I would like to hear about your local brews as well! |

Tap is ok ... at least I would take beer on tap over a can!
The other crazy thing about Milwaukee ... and it didn't truly register with me until I lived other places for awhile (not just visited) ... is that there is practically a bar on every corner (or seems like it ... could be hyperbole) sometimes even two or more on the same block in some spots. If I'm remembering my local history correctly, early on, originally the really old taverns were actually each associated with only a single brewery and only served the beer from that one brewery.
This place in my old neighborhood has been a Serbian restaurant as far as I can remember but originally it was a "tied house" tavern which only sold Schlitz beer. Note the old Schlitz globe on top. |

| Re: The BEER thread ! Been buying Stella quite regularly along with my domestic beers the last few months, I really enjoy the flavour of it.
I've been considering trying a bottle of "Duvel", apparently it's one of Belgium's favorite "strong beers", but I hesitate because the over strength beers I've tasted before all were almost skunky and unpleasant.
In the new wine/beer/spirit store that just opened I am overwhelmed by the selection of beer, some of the ones Sox and Sweaty have mentioned are on the shelves, but I am not a dark/porter drinker, I prefer pilsner and lager beers to ale. |

| Re: The BEER thread ! Stella is a good drink LG, Duval is one to savour, it is strong but there are so many that are stronger, there is one in my local that is 32% ish and £45 a bottle, you can also get a shot for £5

| Re: The BEER thread ! ^^Does Duvel have a "skunky" finish to it Sweaty? You know what I mean...a good beer tastes balanced and all our "strong" ones just don't taste good to me.
I'm not big on expensive beers, and 45 quid a bottle is too rich for me. I would spend that on 3 or 4 good bottles of Cabernet Sauvingnon instead. |

| Re: The BEER thread ! Register to remove these ads. It's free! It is clear but strong, should be ok as the pubs just empty the bottle into the glass and you drink the lot, thinking of having one of those shots for £5 at new year, will put me to bed for sure
