Default Musicals

As I'm sure it's no surprise I'm quite the fan of musicals and after watching RENT today I feel compelled to make a thread just for musicals. My favorites include:

And of course their is "The Phantom of The Opera" though that's too serious to be in my faves, though the song itself it great (though it's riff is MIGHTY close to Pink Floyd's "Echoes").

What about everyone else?

It's not conventional but I'd say yes, it does.

A very innovative one worth chacking out is this blend of the horror genre and musical genre!

Ah yes, I'm familiar with Repo. Several people worked on that soundtrack, including Joan Jett (who has a cameo in the movie) and Yoshiki (of X Japan).

Honestly, even as a huge music fan I struggle with liking musicals which is probably why I only seem to like these unconventional ones. I won't list the ones I don't get because it would be a long list!

I forgot one I really like (at least during the music parts themselves)! I LOVE Glen Hansard and Marketa Inglova!

Well my favorites are far from conventional.

Avenue Q is like Sesame Street for adults where the singers run around on stage with puppets and sing such songs as "The Internet Is For Porn", "If You Were Gay", "Everyone's A Little Bit Racist", "It Sucks To Be Me", and other hilariously raunchy songs.
Jesus Christ Superstar is just an awesome retelling of Jesus....as a superstar, with lead vocals by Deep Purple vocalist Ian Gillan.
And then Rocky Horror, Headwig and The Angry Itch, and RENT are all formulated to rock and are all more than a little bit on the gay side, much to my extra enjoyment.

So....yeah....I'm not all about Grease and "Phantom of The Opera or anything either.

Also another favorite of mine was the "My Musical" episode of Scrubs, which guest stared Stephanie D'Abruzzo of Avenue Q fame.

That was a cool episode!

I'm not a big fan of musicals, but of the few I've seen my favourite is Dr. Horrible's Sing-A-Long Blog. Hell, I'm just about a fan of everything Joss Whedon does

Nice idea Cosmic, nothing new about that, I am not a fan of musicals though. I did see Jesus Christ Superstar in the theaters when it came out, and I didn't mind it at all. Not my area of expertise admittedly.

Well that's fine LG. I know all too well that musicals aren't for everyone. They really seem to be a dying art form these days though, which I think is so sad....

I wouldn't say I'm a big fan of musicals but there's nothing wrong with them. I'm mostly familiar with alot of the old school musicals. I played in the orchestra all through junior high and high school and sang in the choir in junior high so I'm quite familair with stuff like The Sound Of Music, Fiddler On The Roof, South Pacific, West Side Story, Oklahoma, The Music Man, etc. I was playing and singing that stuff long before I started playing Led Zeppelin, Rush, and ZZ Top.

"Old School" is certainly right. That's where musicals really started.
