Default A small rant about our work!

Here's an issue that I want to address. I was torn between making this a public thing or just keeping it private between the admins/mods and the few people this was originally intended to, but after a bit of consideration, I've decided to make this a public thing, to get the point across to everyone, even those who do not complain.

So, the past few weeks, we’ve gotten quite a few remarks about whether anyone is actually monitoring this place or not. Honestly, I take remarks like that personally, considering the work Sooty, Riff Raff and I put into keeping this place tidy and clean for you guys to enjoy.

You think the little spam, and annoying posts you come across are anything. Well, let me tell you, you are only seeing a very small percentage of it and rest assured that spam and other junk gets removed the second one of us comes online. However, we cannot be around every second of the day, so yes, sometimes spam, junk or some jerk will hang around a little longer than anyone wants it to. On top of that, even when we are around, we cannot be in every damn thread at the same time or keep an eye on each and every post or person.

That is why we rely on you guys to report stuff, not just spam, but anything that should be dealt with. Meanwhile, some people choose to just bitch about it here and there, but never reported a single thing, while others, and they know who they are, are making our jobs much easier by reporting everything they see. A big thanks to them!

Trust me, if the admins/mods were not doing their jobs, this place would drown in spam and idiots who’d make this place a terrible place to hang out.

I'll just add that this is a community and not a place of true occupation for anyone here. As a community as Sharp said we do look at reports from that community. If I log in and see obvious spam then it's gone and if I see a report that doesn't have Sharp or Riffs name next to it I'll take care of it. When I contribute to add content I also make full on fleshed out music threads. Whether they be everybody's cup a tea or not it is fine. None of the staff use a punch clock and are held down by shifts. We are simply here because way more people decided one way or another that they didn't want to put the time in period. Some had good reasons and we respect that but the fact is we are here and it's not like it's for a gold membership or we have a crown. Whether it's at night after work or logged off on my phone I'm on here every night. I don't mind suggestions or to be kept aware of anything I miss but I will not tolerate it through snarky and entitled means. Thanks to all of you that make it pleasant to be here. I just share the same sentiment and frustration that Sharp has addressed and will be happy to see that attitude not remain here anymore. Thanks!

Given our respective timezones there is more spam than people realise that gets cleaned up. My Australian timezone is usually I'm on often when not many others are and see sometimes a lot of spam. I have to echo what Soot and Sharp said regarding snarky remarks that it does get under my skin because it has passive aggressive feeling to it and I feel it not necessary especially with reports or requests. I am on to help whenever there's issues but when reporting them do try to have some courtesy and/or patience because like I said certain times there is not always a mod online to clear away any spam or nuisance posts. Feedback is good but when its delivered constructively.

Keep up the good work.

I report spam as much as I can and I hope I'm not the only one.

I have moderated and administrated a few sites. I understand and appreciate what is done here. Filters help with spam. A cool head, and quick "timeouts" do wonders with personal disputes. If it gets bad set a user for "read only" for awhile. Then deal with events through PM's when possible... take it outside.

And it's much appreciated! You've never been anything but straight forward and helpful! I'd like to think it's a very rare occurence that it doesn't get spotted relatively quick when one of us is logged on!

Mr. Shadow, you've been part of this forum a very long time so I bet you remember the drama that was here at many points in time especially when we had the serious debates section open. My timing just happened to be really good, probably because forums are just moderately active nowadays, and things are very mellow since I shifted into the Admin. crew. That's the best part now is that our members are not dramatic towards each other and very little mediation is needed. Perhaps the small minority who have reservations with us just don't know where to redirect their angst.
